One Man’s Passion with Collecting & Nature

RAK Nature’s Treasures, located in Ras Al Khaimah, is a unique natural history museum and farm established by Emirati engineer Tariq Al Salman in 2015.

This 200,000-square-foot sanctuary reflects Al Salman’s lifelong passion for nature and his dedication to bringing the natural world closer to urban residents.

Founder’s Vision and Motivation

From a young age, Al Salman exhibited a deep fascination with nature, collecting unique items such as seashells, colored stones, and curved pieces of wood from various landscapes, including beaches, deserts, and mountains. These early collections laid the foundation for what would become RAK Nature’s Treasures. Al Salman stated, “I have been collecting from a young age… I used to store them at home and a few years ago, decided to build this museum.”

Museum Highlights

The museum houses an extensive array of natural artifacts, including:

  • Gemstones and Fossils: A diverse collection of unpolished gemstones and ancient fossils, showcasing the Earth’s geological diversity.
  • Corals and Seashells: Exhibits featuring massive corals and a variety of seashells, reflecting Al Salman’s interest in marine life.
  • Taxidermy and Preserved Specimens: Displays of stuffed birds, insects, and other animals, providing insights into regional wildlife.
  • Herbs and Natural Medicines: A section dedicated to herbs and traditional natural remedies, emphasizing the importance of medicinal plants.

Farm and Animal Sanctuary

Beyond the museum, RAK Nature’s Treasures encompasses a farm and animal sanctuary, home to various species, including tortoises, flamingos, snakes, donkeys, horses, and oryx. Visitors can explore greenhouses, pick vegetables, and interact with animals in the petting zoo, offering an immersive experience that bridges the gap between humans and nature.

Educational and Community Engagement

Al Salman is committed to education and community involvement, hosting events with speakers on various topics related to nature and conservation. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about the natural world and inspire others to appreciate and protect the environment.

RAK Nature’s Treasures stands as a testament to Tariq Al Salman’s dedication to preserving and sharing the wonders of the natural world. Through his personal collection and the creation of this museum and farm, he has provided a space where visitors can connect with nature, learn about biodiversity, and gain a deeper appreciation for the environment.
